Today I am Blissfully happy

I woke up this morning and all but skipped to work. After such a hard couple of years, I am grateful to be in a place where I can feel myself getting back to normal. As I walked to the subway station, I realized that I was just so, so happy.

During my sabbatical, I made sure to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what would make me happy. Once I figured it out, I was purposeful in trying to make sure that those things were a part of my life. Now, as I look back on 2011, I am certain that the following things are right where they are supposed to be.

MY HOME
I am obsessed with my apartment. 5 months of looking at interior decorating magazines makes a difference. My friends helped me paint, my mom helped me with some of the bigger purchases, and I’ve made it into my favorite little home. I’ve even crowded my friends in for multiple game nights. I’m so happy to come home each day.

MY FRIENDS
This year has been a year of rebuilding. I parted ways with a lot of toxic and half- hearted friends, some friendships outgrew each other and living alone in the middle of Arkansas for 5 months didn’t help matters. But as I’ve come back into my home, I’ve had some amazing experiences with old friends and made so many new friends who I know will be around for a long time.

MY JOB
When you quit a job with no backup plan, a lot of things become clear really quickly. What became the most clear to me is that regardless of what my new job was, I needed to have a job where I loved the people I work with and where the management knew my name and actually cared about what I did with my life. To say I’m obsessed with my job and my coworkers would be an understatement. We play kickball together, we go out after work together and we genuinely enjoy each other. I feel valued, I have fun and most of all, I love coming to work each most days.

MY FAMILY
As I’ve mentioned before, I am ridiculously close to my family. This year has been a really difficult one for all of us, but for right now, my brother is safe, my parents have peace and I’m so grateful to have such a strong support system. And most importantly, my nephew lights up all of our lives on a daily basis. He came at just the right time and I cannot wait to spend a week with my favorite munchkin.
