Gratitude

My life is a constant drum of anxiety but today I am grateful for parents who continue to believe in their kids long past the point of realistic hope, new friends who invite you to dinner parties on a whim, football on a gorgeous afternoon with one of my NYC favorites, and Sunday movie and dinner with college friends who feel more like family in this city so far from our actual families.

There are few things I love more than going to bed on Sunday night grateful for the week behind me.

I saw this ad this morning. LOVE it. So glad Mariel took a picture of it since I was too lazy to pull my phone out. :)

For my birthday, I got fourth row tickets from my parents to see How To Succeed In Business with Darren Criss. My best friend Alye joined me as I spent 3 hours silently swooning. We both loved the show and thought Beau Bridges was so much fun as the boss.

And even though Darren didn’t
magically pull me out of my seat and fall in love with me, it was a great night.

And just when I thought I was done with these Shit ____ Say things, Eliot & Ilana go and make the best one. If you live in New York. I PROMISE. - interweber

Urlbot 4 life Eliot Glazer and his sister Ilana (who you may recognize from Broad City) give New York the Shit Say video it needed.

“You have to go to Brooklyn! It’s the law!”

“Tourists. Tourists. Tourists.”

“Ummm I don’t really go to Queens.”

Confession Wednesday

I am TERRIBLE at money managing. I am TERRIBLE at budgeting. I am currently in a heaping lot of debt because of these two facts.

2012 started off so well. Then I had a 4 day weekend and now I have $90 to last me through 2 weekends that include the following:

The worst part is that I never end up with anything amazing when I run out of money. I wish I could say I wasted it on a trip to Paris. My budget got blown due to the following:

So. the sum of this post is that I’m screwed for the rest of the month. Anyone know of any babysitting jobs?

“When I was younger, even as recently as a year or two ago, I thought I would live as many places as possible. Now I find that the weight of all the people I can’t pretend I’ll ever see again is breaking my heart and I’m not sure I can bear to make any more places home. Still, desperation tends to strike all of a sudden, with an all-but-irresistible urge to cut off all my hair, to get a tattoo, to get on an airplane, to join the Marines, to do something drastic because this stasis is not in my DNA. Am I explaining this right? The only thing that I want more than to stay here is to be as far away as I can get with a single plane ride.”

camaraderie: With apologies to Thomas Wolfe, and Demi Moore in Now and Then

THIS. Every day this. Minus the tattoo and the Marines.

“The trouble is, adulthood is not at all what I was promised. I imagined that after sixteen years of rule following and DAREing to keep off drugs, there would be some greater reward than working ten hour days, struggling to pay rent, and navigating the emotional minefield of the dating world. What am I to do with these SAT scores now? There should be a banner erected in every elementary school: DOING WELL HERE MEANS NOTHING. I’d like to slip little fortune-sized notes in the schoolbooks of middle schoolers: Stop being so good, and Do whatever you want.”

My home - Part Two.
This is a sampling of my inspiration for my apartment. The blue couch was the first furniture item we bought when I moved to NYC. I am obsessed with it and try to make sure everything in my home complements it. My desire to have a tufted bed came while perusing design blogs during unemployment and I am equally as obsessed with it. I found one at PB that I wanted but it took 12-16 weeks to deliver. I’m impatient and I found one I loved even more on Inmod.com for 1/2 the price and 2 week delivery. SOLD.
I fell in love with the pendant chandelier at West Elm but did not have any ceiling lights in my apartment. My mom perused the internets and found this standing look alike lamp on Amazon. I wanted extra long curtains but they are rare and expensive ($150/panel X 6 - KILL ME). I found mine at JCPenney.com for $19.99/panel and they are great.
Painting also made a big difference and while I hated every minute of it, it was definitely worth the effort. My number one favorite thing though is the blinds. My dad came in October and helped me pick out and install them. To me, it makes the biggest difference in my apartment feeling like a home instead of a grimy NYC studio. They are $39.99/panel and worth every penny.
Huge props goes to my mom who secretly thinks she is an interior designer and sat with me for hours and hours helping me find all the perfect things.
